Impact of cell phones in classrooms – Summary Smartphones or cell phones have become an essential gadget in the day to day lives of almost everyone who can afford one for themselves. For high school and college students, a life without a smartphone is unimaginable because it has become their portal to an active social life. If they refrain themselves from sifting through the hundreds of Facebook updates, Tweets, Instagram photos or Snapchats every hour, they ll soon end up being left behind. This urges students to frequently check their smartphones even while they are in classrooms. With smartphones in their hands, a number of gaming applications, text messaging, email, social media applications and other websites compete for their attention, grabbing their attention away from the lectures on which they are supposed to be focusing. The instructors are also confronted with an additional burden to keep their students focused and engaged.
